Gaming: Not just a hobby, it can lead to a rewarding career too!
Video games are interactive, fast-paced and designed to capture and keep player’s attention for hours on end. Some games are not just for entertainment but require a high level of skill and the ability to think and act quickly.
While some may view games and gaming systems as distractions, it is clear that video games are teaching critical skills. Teamwork, patience and coordination are all learned from hours with a controller in hand. And if this is you, then you may be naturally well suited to a career in Industry 4.0.
Industry 4.0 and advanced manufacturing are not about the factories from our parent’s generation but rather high tech, automated and digital workplaces. These are well-paid careers that are not gender-specific. If you are more comfortable doing your work with a tablet or other smart device, then you may want to consider a career in advanced manufacturing.
There are generally three types of people who might enjoy a career in this field – we call them Makers, Organizers and Coders.
If you enjoy building things then you are probably a “Maker”, if you are goal-oriented you are an ”Organizer” and if you love solving complex problems then you are a “Coder”.
Do you want to work in Robotics, Virtual Reality or the Industrial Internet of Things? Or does 3D printing technology and Artificial Intelligence interest you?
