Don’t fear the robots

Manufacturing is a time-honoured industry. Putting in a full day’s work to make something you can touch, and use is gratifying. But manufacturing is more than that – it is part of the economic foundation of our country.

Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs have participated fully in the manufacturing industry over the years, making and selling products around the world. What the sector looks like, and what it produces, is changing…and manufacturers need to change with it to stay competitive.

Manufacturers are aware of this but have expressed concern about technology replacing human capital and losing the personal touch. That does not have to happen.

Humans and technology can work together: with humans being in control and the technology completing the task that it is programmed to do. The idea that technology will replace the need for creative thinking, problem-solving, leadership and teamwork is incorrect.

Robotics can step in for some tasks that are complicated or even dangerous for people to do. Robotics does not kill jobs; it simply changes them.

Many companies who have implemented robotic applications in their facilities have realized that their employees need a different skill set, and this presents a great opportunity for continuous learning and training.

Our free how-to guidebook demystifies advanced manufacturing and introduces you to technologies currently being used by Atlantic Canadian businesses. We show you how to get started, provide a step-by-step plan and include resources to enlist support.
